Meet the Ladies of the Book Club

Book Club Movie - Mary Gauthier

Mary Gauthier

Mary Gauthier, like most of the book club members, came to Washington, DC due to her husband’s job assignment during the war. Mary was perhaps one of the most traditional of the ladies, and it showed in her choice of books. Jeanne Walker tells of the day Mary brought a copy of “My Mother, My Self,” by Nancy Friday, to the meeting. Mary threw it on the table in disgust, saying she wouldn’t tolerate having such a book in her house. At which point, Jeanne says she picked it up right away and read it cover to cover. Her take on it? “Well, this isn’t so bad.”
